Warnock believes Robertson is arguably the world’s best left-back

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes Andrew Robertson is arguably the best left-back in the world at the present point of time. The Scotland international has been a revelation since the £8m move to Anfield from Hull City and last season, he was exceptional with 13 assists across all competitions for the Reds.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Warnock said that he has been impressed with the progress of both Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold over the past year. He added to reserve special praise for Robertson stating that the Scot has been able to make the difference in an attacking point of view without leaving any gap at the back for the opposition to exploit.

He said: “Both Andy and Trent on the other side had incredible seasons. I think last season with the protection that Andy got from the midfielders, whether that be Fabinho, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum or Jordan Henderson, he knew he was able to make those runs forward without leaving gaps behind him. When he is going forward, the quality of delivery he possesses is brilliant. Your modern day full-back can often attack, but can he defend? Robbo can do both comfortably and for me, and I’ve said it before, he is arguably the best left-back in the world at the moment.”

Robertson had found himself competing with Alberto Moreno for the left-back role during the early stages of the 2017/18 season. However, 25-year-old managed to soon take over the position with Moreno tending to make mistakes, and he has not looked back ever since with a string of consistent performances.

Liverpool managed to win the Champions League during the previous campaign and that meant that they ended a seven-year wait for a trophy. However, the Reds could not celebrate Premier League success after finishing one point behind eventual champions Manchester City but they have the chance to give it another go during the forthcoming campaign.

Stephen Warnock fancies Mohamed Salah to regain his scoring form

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has backed Mohamed Salah to find his scoring form as Liverpool embark on the final two months of the Premier League campaign. The Egypt international has failed to score in eight successive games for the Reds this year, but that has recently generated concerns regarding his form in the run-in.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Warnock acknowledged that Salah is not enjoying the best of runs with the Mersey side outfit after going more than 50 days without scoring for them. However, the former Liverpool man revealed that the attacker has still been impressive with the link up play alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino and he should find the scoring touch in due course.

Stephen Warnock mentions two Manchester United graduates who can make the step up

Former Liverpool ace Stephen Warnock has said that Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong are two players, who could make the step up from the Manchester United reserve side. The Red Devils have been fond of promoting young graduates into the first-team over the years with Marcus Rashford being the most-recent one, who has earned plenty of plaudits.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, Warnock indicated that United have top talents in the academy but there are two players in Gomes and Chong, who could make a name for themselves with the senior side, he said: “I think they have some exceptional youngsters. When you look at [Angel] Gomes and [Tahith] Chong – they are players that United have earmarked for future game time. “I think they think they’re big stars in the making. Solskjaer has worked in the youth team before, Kieran McKenna will know those players inside out and how they’ll handle the occasion of playing for United.”

Sky Sports pundit raves about Leeds United’s newest signing

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock believes Leeds United have landed themselves a big coup after completing the signing of Kiko Casilla on a free transfer from Real Madrid. The 32-year-old has been a proven winner with Los Blancos in recent seasons and Warnock feels the shot-stopper could make the underlining difference in Leeds’ promotion push under Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking to Football League World, he said: “He’s one of those where pedigree is good, the club he’s coming in from is very good,” Warnock told Football League World. He (Bielsa) obviously feels he needs a goalkeeper to get him over the line and he probably feels that this is the signing that helps Leeds over the line. It’s a big signing for them, I think he’s signed a four-and-a-half year deal, so it shows their intent to him. I think it’s a good signing for both parties.”

Sky Sports pundit compares Leroy Sane with Premier League great

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has placed a huge compliment on Leroy Sane by comparing the German attacker with Premier League and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs. The Germany international endured a tough start to the top-flight season with Manchester City but he has sorted himself over the past few months where he has contributed six goals and six assists from just seven league starts.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Warnock has praised the qualities of Sane and believes the German would be the closest that can be compared to Giggs, he said: “Leroy Sane is the closest thing we’ve seen to Ryan Giggs in years. His ability to glide past players makes it look effortless. But what I like about the two wingers is when the ball’s on the opposite side as we saw last night with Sane’s goal and with [Riyad] Mahrez’s goal later on is that they become a second striker when the ball’s on the opposite side of the pitch and it’s something that Pep’s making sure that they do. It’s getting men in the box, it’s getting people in the right areas and that’s why they’re scoring so many goals.”
